About the role

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis BioMedical Research (BR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Plan, design and execute in vivo pharmacokinetic (PK), radiolabeled ADME studies in rodents and non-rodents as well as distribution studies (QWBA) in rodents in order to support preclinical projects across Novartis Biomedical Research portfolio. These studies will be done either internally or will be outsourced to external service providers. If done internally, you will act as study director and hands-on study related lab work is key. In case of external study execution, you will collaborate closely with the study director of the external service provider on study protocol and report generation.
• Independently recognize study/project hurdles (operational, technical, and scientific) and make solution proposals.
• Manage study timelines and objectives, ensure accuracy of study data within corporate databases and project tracking tools. Communicate study results and data interpretation to cross-functional project teams.
• Comply with Swiss and Novartis-specific rules and regulations, e.g., Swiss Animal Welfare law, 3R principles, HSE and quality standards.
• Independently recognize challenges (technical, scientific or study-related) and provide relevant input for solution/problem solving.
• Be a pro-active, innovative, and solution-oriented team player.
• Overall, excellent collaboration, coordination, and communication skills with other scientists within the team, within our matrix organization and with ESPs are required. Fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect is key.

Role Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
• MSc degree in Biology or a related scientific discipline or a completed apprenticeship as laboratory technician with at least 5 years of work experience, preferably in the area of DMPK in pharmaceutical industry or CRO/ESPs.
• Several years of working experience in animal experimentation is a must (e.g. valid accreditation with LTK1 course, FELASA Cat. B training or equivalent training).
• Good knowledge of in vivo techniques related to PK and ADME, instrumentation, and underlying principles within in vivo PK and ADME field.
• Hands-on experience in working with radiolabeled test compounds.
Experience in non-rodent PK and ADME studies are considered as beneficial.
• Good understanding of the pharmacokinetic science and the drug discovery and development processes.
• Competency and interest in working daily with different IT systems (e.g. MS Office, Phoenix WinNonlin, MCID, Internal databases).
• Curious mindset, with high interest to continuously learn and develop further.
• Team player with excellent communication and a collaborative mindset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is a must; some knowledge of German considered beneficial.
