The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine promotes research and teaching in the fields of health, medicine, functional capacity and rehabilitation. As of March 1, 2027, or by agreement, we are seeking, for the ?Zug Institute for Blockchain Research at the University of Lucerne", a

As the successful candidate, you will play an active role in building the interdisciplinary Zug Institute for Blockchain Research. Located in the canton of Zug, the institute is planned to comprise a total of nine professorships from four different faculties of the University of Lucerne. The professorships will address the societal, political, legal, economic, and health related implications of blockchain technology. The aim is to establish a globally unique institute for blockchain research in the human sciences in terms of its breadth and diversity.

As holder of the professorship (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the field of ?Health and Blockchain." The professorship will focus on researching the application of blockchain technologies in healthcare, with an emphasis on building trust, societal acceptance, and sustainable and efficient provision of care. Possible areas of focus include: the use of blockchain for electronic patient data and patient centered care (particularly data security, interoperability, and practical value), improving efficiency in the healthcare system (for example through optimized processes, error reduction, and smart contracts), further development of financing and reimbursement systems through automation, cost reduction, and incentive design, as well as promoting transparency and quality in healthcare while considering societal, legal, and economic frameworks.

In this position, you will represent the field sustainably and visibly in research. In teaching, you will be involved in the faculty's degree programs as well as other interdisciplinary study offerings. In addition to high quality teaching, you will have an outstanding research record. This should reflect, relative to your academic age, achievements such as national and international publications, third party funding acquired to date, as well as awards and other distinctions. The Zug Institute for Blockchain Research expects the professorship's research to make a visible contribution to national and international debates on ?Health and Blockchain." Teaching languages are German or English.

The appointment requirements are governed by §2 of the University of Lucerne's appointment regulations. A completed doctorate in a relevant field is required for the position; for a full professorship, a habilitation or equivalent achievements are additionally required. Part time professorships are possible.
