Banking Specialist - Payments

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Banking Specialist – Payments to join our international team and contribute to high-quality banking operations services for leading financial institutions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Banking Specialist – Payments will support the daily management of domestic and international payment transactions, ensuring that all activities are performed accurately, efficiently and in compliance with applicable market standards and operational deadlines.

The role involves payment order entry and validation, investigation of payment-related issues, management of pending cash items and regular interaction with clients, correspondent banks and other financial counterparties.

The successful candidate will contribute proactively to the continuous improvement and automation of operational processes, helping ensure a reliable service and an excellent client experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Payment Operations

• Execute daily operational activities related to domestic and international commercial payments.
• Perform payment order entry, validation and related control activities.
• Process transactions in accordance with applicable market standards, formats and cut-off times, including SWIFT, SEPA, TARGET and SIC.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness and timely execution of payment instructions.

Investigations and Cash Management

• Manage payment investigations involving correspondent banks, ordering banks and beneficiary banks.
• Work closely with clients to identify and resolve payment discrepancies or operational issues.
• Analyse pending cash open items assigned to the Payments Team.
• Undertake the necessary follow-up activities to close outstanding positions with correspondent banks.

Client and Counterparty Management

• Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, banks and financial counterparties.
• Provide clear and timely updates regarding payment investigations and pending transactions.
• Maintain a strong service orientation and contribute to a positive client experience.

Process Improvement and Automation

• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and quality of payment processes.
• Contribute proactively to process optimisation and automation initiatives.
• Support the implementation of operational controls and procedures aimed at reducing errors and operational risks.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the continuous improvement of payment services.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• Previous experience in banking operations, payment processing or a comparable financial services environment.
• Knowledge of domestic and international payment processes.
• Familiarity with payment standards and formats such as SWIFT, SEPA, TARGET and SIC.
• Knowledge of ISO messaging formats.
• Understanding of cash products and banking services, including foreign exchange, money market, reconciliation or derivatives.
• Strong analytical skills and a structured approach to problem-solving.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in a complex, challenging and fast-paced environment.
• High degree of flexibility and willingness to learn.
• Strong team-working attitude and client orientation.
• Good command of English.
