Das Schweizerische Bundesinstitut für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft WSL ist Teil des ETH-Bereichs. Etwa 600 Mitarbeitende arbeiten an der nachhaltigen Nutzung und dem Schutz der Umwelt sowie an der Bewältigung von Naturgefahren.
Die Forschungsgruppe Wald- und Bodenoekologie bewertet die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels und der Bewirtschaftung auf Wälder und deren Böden und sucht einen Doktoranden für die Forschungsgruppe Boden-Biogeochemie:
Der Doktorand wird innerhalb der interdisziplinären DFG-Forschungsgruppe Waldboden arbeiten, die darauf abzielt, die Auswirkungen des globalen Wandels, insbesondere Trockenheit, auf Waldböden zu bewerten. Der Kandidat wird die Effekte von Trockenheit auf den organischen Substanzumsatz und die Kohlenstoffspeicherung im Boden untersuchen. Die Forschung umfasst stabile Isotopenmarkierung, Radiokarbontechniken sowie die Messung von Kohlenstoff- und Stickstoffvorräten und -flüssen in kurz- und langfristigen Trockenheitsexperimenten. Der Doktorand wird eng mit anderen Forschern und Doktoranden der Universitäten Freiburg, München, Göttingen, Hamburg und Wien zusammenarbeiten, um die Auswirkungen wiederkehrender Trockenperioden auf Bodenprozesse und -funktionen im Kontext des globalen Wandels abzuschätzen. Der Arbeitsplatz befindet sich am Schweizerischen Bundesforschungsinstitut WSL in Birmensdorf, und der Kandidat wird als Doktorand an der ETH Zürich eingeschrieben sein.
Der erfolgreiche Kandidat verfügt über einen Masterabschluss in Umweltwissenschaften, Bodenkunde, Mikrobiologie oder verwandten Fachgebieten. Bewerber sollten ausgeprägte Kommunikationsfähigkeiten, Eigenmotivation, eine Eignung für Feldforschung einschließlich guter körperlicher Verfassung für sicheres Bewegen im unwegsamen Gelände sowie Engagement für kollaborative, interdisziplinäre Forschung nachweisen. Gute Englischkenntnisse (schriftlich und mündlich) werden erwartet, Kenntnisse einer Schweizer Landessprache sind von Vorteil.
