ASSOCIATE INFORMATION ANALYST (TJO), Geneve

Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located within the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section (JSCS) of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM). The purpose of this position is to strengthen cooperation with the Independent Institution on Missing Persons for Syria (IIMP) by facilitating the sharing with the IIMP, as appropriate and with the sources’ consent, of information relevant to the search for missing persons. Under the overall supervision of the JSCS Chief, the incumbent will directly report to the JSCS Legal Officer in charge of the missing persons portfolio. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority the Associate Information Analyst is responsible for the following duties: 1. Under the guidance of the IIIM, assists in the development of research and analysis strategies and conducts research to identify relevant information in the IIIM repository and open-source information in support of the search for the missing in Syria and memorialization of the Syrian conflict for transitional justice efforts; 2. Under the guidance of the supervisor, evaluates and analyzes information to determine relevance and gaps and to inform decisions relating to the search for the missing; 3. Organizes and synthesizes relevant information and evidence, including through the use of analytical software(s), and related analytical products in support of the IIIM’s proactive sharing activities for the IIMP; 4. Maintains and updates IIIM’s internal databases and uses information management processes and electronic information systems to classify, manage, store, prepare and transfer information packages to the IIMP, including assisting in seeking consent from the sources; 5. Performs other duties as required. EducationAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in criminology, law, Middle Eastern studies, conflict or security studies, international relations, human rights or criminal law, political/social science or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Certification or training in intelligence analysis is desirable. Job - Specific QualificationNot available. Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience in information analysis in the context of missing persons, criminal investigations, international humanitarian law or human rights, or in the context of the Middle East or North Africa region is required. Experience in eDiscovery methodology or big data investigations is desirable. Experience using analytical software is desirable. Experience in relation to the Syrian conflict is desirable. Experience in evidence review is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and Arabic are required.
