Quantum Device and Measurement Engineer

The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.

For the Bosonic Quantum Information group at PSI, we are looking for a

Quantum Device and Measurement Engineer

Your tasks

You will install, operate, and maintain state-of-the-art control and measurement setups for quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, including dilution refrigerators and microwave frequency instrumentation. In addition, you will maintain and further improve a nanofabrication process for high-coherence superconducting qubits in the PSI PICO cleanroom. While this is a technical position, participation in the projects of the host group, for instance through fabrication of test samples and qubit characterization experiments, will be strongly encouraged. You will have the opportunity to co-supervise Master and semester students and interact with a vibrant community of quantum researchers and technical experts.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a PhD degree in physics or a relevant engineering degree. You should have prior experience with dilution refrigerators and nanofabrication as well as good communication and English language skills. The position requires a methodical approach to complex problems with many control parameters and will benefit from a strong motivation to learn about recent developments in nanofabrication of high-coherence superconducting circuit devices as well as control and measurement instrumentation. Good Python programming skills and a background in superconducting circuit experiments are considered a plus.

We offer

Our institution is based on an interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will profit from a systematic training on the job, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. If you wish to optimally combine work and family life or other personal interests, we are able to support you with our modern employment conditions and the on-site infrastructure.
