Art Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Art Director based in Switzerland. This is a hands-on creative leadership role shaping the complete visual identity of a multiplayer PvPvE shooter built in Unreal Engine. You’ll own the artistic direction across characters, environments, animation, weapons, concept art, and UI/UX. Working closely with creative, design, product, and technical teams, you’ll ensure every visual element feels cohesive and supports the player experience. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary art team while remaining deeply involved in production and asset development. The role combines high-level artistic vision with practical pipeline, workflow, and production ownership. As the game moves toward Early Access and live content, you’ll help establish scalable processes for new arenas, seasonal content, cosmetics, and ongoing updates. You’ll join a distributed, self-managing team that values open collaboration, strong communication, and ambitious game development. Accountabilities: - Own and define the overall art direction, visual identity, and creative standards across the game. - Direct the development of environment art, character and species design, animation, modeling, rigging, texturing, shader development, concept art, 2D assets, and UI/UX. - Establish clear artistic direction and provide regular feedback to ensure assets remain consistent, polished, and aligned with the game's identity. - Maintain a cohesive visual language across playable species, characters, environments, skins, cosmetics, and future content. - Partner closely with creative leadership, game designers, technical leaders, and product stakeholders to integrate art seamlessly with gameplay and game design. - Build and maintain effective 3D art pipelines within Unreal Engine and collaborate with technical teams to resolve production challenges.

- Optimize artistic workflows and production processes to balance visual quality, development efficiency, and the pace required for live-service content. - Plan, initiate, execute, and control art production from early concepts through release-ready assets and post-launch updates. - Track milestones, production progress, and deliverables using tools such as Jira and Confluence. - Provide regular feedback, guidance, and support to the art team while keeping production aligned with schedules and quality expectations. - Contribute to the development of new arenas, seasonal content, cosmetics, and other post-launch experiences. - Work cross-functionally to identify and resolve technical or production challenges that could affect artistic quality or delivery. - Help establish an environment where different art disciplines collaborate effectively within an agile and distributed production model. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Art, Design, or a closely related discipline, complemented by substantial professional experience in game production. - At least 7 years of professional experience in the gaming industry, with exposure to the full development lifecycle from pre-production through live operations. - Proven experience directing or significantly contributing to at least one shipped AA or AAA game and the ability to support large-scale productions through release. - Hands-on experience creating stylized games with hand-painted textures and maintaining a distinctive, cohesive visual identity across characters and environments. - Strong portfolio demonstrating versatility across traditional art, 3D art, animation, UI/UX, and concept art, with consistently high standards of craftsmanship. - Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary art production, including 2D, 3D, animation, modeling, rigging, texturing, shaders, and UI/UX. - Professional proficiency in Maya and Substance Painter. - Strong experience with Unreal Engine and 3D art production pipelines.
