Software Developer

Responsibilities

• Analyze Oracle APEX pages, processes, PL/SQL packages, business workflows, and data dependencies.
• Design and implement Spring Boot services and Angular frontends for CERN’s geodetic metrology data management system.
• Participate in requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment across the software development lifecycle.
• Write automated tests and apply software quality practices, including code reviews, documentation, unit testing, clean code, and SonarQube.
• Collaborate with end users, IT teams, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to translate needs into reliable, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.
• Supervise the team and contribute to delivery aligned with CERN’s current and future strategic goals.

Requirements

• Professional background in Software Engineering or a related field.
• Master’s degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation professional experience, or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
• Proven experience designing and developing applications with Java technologies and modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Practical experience with concurrent and multithreaded programming.
• Experience with software quality assurance practices, automated testing, code review, documentation, unit tests, clean code, and SonarQube.
• Experience in ICT systems architecture and design, including scalable services and APIs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes.
• Strong knowledge of the Spring framework ecosystem and relational databases, particularly Oracle Database and PL/SQL.
• Ability to design reliable software services using SOLID principles or similar practices.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle tools, methodologies, and procedures.
• English or French proficiency, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.
• Must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
• Knowledge of Oracle APEX is an asset.
