SENIOR DISPUTES COUNSEL , ZURICH $$$

The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of cross-border litigation, international arbitration, investigations and contentious regulatory matters. They will also provide general legal support to senior business leaders across the organisation. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced disputes lawyer seeking a broader, commercially focused in-house role within a fast-paced international environment.

The Role

You will:

• Advise senior business leaders on complex disputes arising from the organisation's international commercial activities.
• Manage cross-border litigation and international arbitration matters from initial assessment through to resolution.
• Develop dispute strategies that balance legal risk, commercial priorities and reputational considerations.
• Advise on pre-dispute matters, contractual rights, potential exposure and opportunities for early resolution.
• Lead settlement negotiations, mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
• Support the business on investigations, contentious regulatory matters and other sensitive legal issues.
• Provide commercially focused advice on a broader range of contracts, transactions and day-to-day legal matters.
• Review and negotiate complex commercial agreements, identifying potential areas of risk and dispute.
• Work closely with commercial, compliance, finance and risk teams across multiple jurisdictions.
• Identify recurring legal risks and use lessons from disputes to strengthen contracts, processes and internal controls.
• Contribute to the development of legal processes, governance and best practice across the wider legal function.

Candidate Profile

They are interested in lawyers who possess:

• Approximately 6-12 years' post-qualification experience gained within a leading international law firm and/or multinational corporate environment.
• Strong experience in complex disputes, commercial litigation and international arbitration.
• Exposure to the commodities, energy, natural resources or international trading sectors would be highly advantageous.
• A high-quality legal background, ideally developed within a leading disputes practice.
• Experience handling cross-border matters involving multiple jurisdictions, counterparties and stakeholders.
• The versatility and commercial awareness to advise on broader contractual, regulatory and general legal matters.
• Excellent judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical advice in demanding situations.
• The confidence to work directly with senior executives and influence strategic decision-making.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
• Experience managing external counsel, experts and significant legal budgets.
• Fluency in English and the ability to operate effectively within an international organisation.
